How The Fellowship of the Spirit Travellers came to being.

12 years ago I went on a walk about looking for a way to help my people The Aboriginals who were dying in their 20’s 30’s & 40’s from alcohol. My travels took me up near the Ukon to a Indian Village where I had been told the whole tribe had gotten sober through AA. So spending some time with them, & sitting in a circle one day asked the chief how did you all get sober. He held up the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous He then said we work the steps out of the Big Book. I said to him I already do that but it seems something is missing for me.

So I left & made my way back into the USA & over to Rhode Island where I stayed with a friend & his family for a week & while there this friend told me about a workshop he had attended in New York. The speaker being a bloke called Joe from LA that had a fantastic message. My friend Jack was very excited about it all & gave me a set of tapes from this workshop.

On my way back to Australia I started to listen to the tapes & was blown away by what I was hearing. A true message with great depth & weight. On arriving back in Sydney & giving these tapes to my then sponsor, within 1 week my sponsor had made contact with this Joe fellow in LA & we were sent a copy of a workbook called Big book Awakening. Joe was then my sponsors new sponsor. My 5th step experience was going to Denver where I had never been before & sitting with a few women whom I never knew exisited reading out my 5th step, I was just desperate for victory over alcohol & sick & tired of living in fear of drinking I had become willing to go to any lengths to get free of that.

After my 5th step was finished I was directed to go up stairs & with the Big Book to go over what I had just done & carefully look at the 1st 5 proposals making sure I had left out nothing. I felt like I was flying so free to get it all out. I then went over it all & was just so very willing in 6 to ask God in 7 to remove all in me that was blocking me from Him. It was the most amazing experience.

I then started to write out my step 8 list which was already in my inventory. & just wanted to get back home. On arriving back home I preceded to make things right by making amends. First with the Family then friends & so forth. Some financial amends a biggie with the Tax dept which I paid off. I was then pulled into steps 10 11 & 12.

I can honestly say that for the first time in 4 years of sobriety & had a very deep step 1 experience of hopelessness. That then took me to the power of God that just pulled me through the steps. I always wanted to be connected to the power of God but was blocked of from running on self-will.

I go back through the steps each year as I have an ego that rebuilds real fast. I love the new experiences I have each time through the work. So the fellowship I crave has grown up aroud me like the BB said it would.I have been given the most beautiful gift of sobriety & the best part is God allows me to carry His message to help others.

This past January we had a rally at Tahmoor in NSW with 150 tickets sold. Dan S the author of BB Awakening was our guest speaker. It was just fantastic. Out of it has come workshops in Sydney, Campbelltown, ACT, Shepparton, & Melbourne. People wanting to experience a new relationship with their Creator & to be Happy Joyous & Free.
